We offer a wide range of Professional Development courses for English Language and Literature teachers at all stages of their career. These courses focus on developing practical and essential skills and knowledge for teachers in schools. In addition, we can meet specific training needs of schools through customised in-service courses.
Advanced Diploma
A part-time Professional Development programme currently being offered by ELL is the Advanced Diploma in Primary English Language Education (ADPELE). Participants will be required to complete 8 courses (20 Academic Units) within five years to qualify for the award of the Advanced Diploma. Alternatively, the individual courses making up the ADPELE can also be taken as standalone Professional Development courses.
Collaboration with the English Language Institute of Singapore (ELIS)
At present, ELL is collaborating with ELIS to offer a 96-hour Professional Learning Programme (PLP) for EL Teacher Leaders (i.e. Senior teachers, Lead teachers, Key Personnel). This programme aims to help EL Teacher Leaders without a specialisation in English to deepen their Subject Content Knowledge (SCK) in order to teach EL more effectively. It is co-facilitated by ELL faculty and ELIS Master Teachers.
Samples of other Professional Development courses
Some examples of other Professional Development courses offered by ELL faculty include Grammar for Assessment, Pedagogical Grammar for English, Teaching Julius Caesar, How to Read and Fruitfully ‘Unpack’ Poems, Interpreting Drama through Performance, and Understanding Drama as Text and Performance.
