Leading up to the 5th APSCE International Conference on Computational Thinking and STEM Education 2021 (CTE-STEM 2021), the CTE-STEM 2021 conference committee organised a pre-conference webinar in conjunction with the New Education Normal Webinar Series on 20 February 2021. The webinar, titled “Computational Thinking Education (CTE) Meets Artificial Intelligence (AI)”, was presented by Prof Hal Abelson, Class of 1922 Professor, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Massachusetts Institute of Education.

Prof Abelson took attendees through an overview of the evolution of CTE, from its inception in the 1970s to today, the “new” age of AI, and discussed key ideas for AI education that are missing in today’s CTE. The webinar concluded with a lively question and answer segment, moderated by Prof Looi Chee Kit, Learning Sciences and Assessment, NIE, and CTE-STEM 2021 Conference Chair, and was attended by 106 people from around the world.
